Our lip balm is manufactured using sustainable ingredients and processes and is vegan and cruelty-free, REACH and FDA compliant. It was developed to adhere to the stricter European standards of clean beauty.

We use the least amount of packaging possible and always recycled cardboard when possible. We print our tags with soy ink on 100% recycled paper.

To ensure quality and safety, we regularly test our materials in accredited third-party labs. This testing confirms that all the components of bkr products meet or exceed stringent U.S. FDA and European RoHS safety guidelines. Including but not limited to: lead safe, BPA-free, and phthalate-free.

The cup and bottle sleeves are interchangeable silicone made from naturally occurring silica sand and are BPA-free, phthalate-free, and can be recycled in designated facilities. 

All bkr products are Lead Safe and both meet and exceed all FDA regulations. Third party tests from accredited facilities confirm lead is not detected in our glass and only a negligible amount of lead is detected in the logo mark on the bottom of the cup––a small fraction of the most stringent legal limits as established by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission and the FDA for objects in even the most protected categories such as baby toys. We use the term “lead safe” because “lead free” is a term used for products that naturally would not contain lead, like cotton socks. The term “lead safe” refers to products that could contain trace amounts of lead but have no more than established federal guidelines.

We take product safety seriously and will continue to be as thoughtful as possible as we continue to create and improve our products. 

Our caps are made of food-grade plastic. Bottle caps are polypropylene which is known for its inert qualities and considered one of the safest plastics available, containing no harmful BPA, BPS or phthalates. It's used in baby products and pharmaceuticals because of that. We believe in progress over perfection and while it’s impossible to avoid all plastics, we should try to not marinate our water in them and make sure that any use case is necessary, eternally reusable, as safe and clean as possible, and uncomplicated / recyclable.

bkr’s food-grade, pure, buttery soft silicone is specifically designed for food contact applications and is manufactured to meet strict regulatory standards for safety. Several factors contribute to its food-safe properties:

Inertness: Silicone is chemically inert, meaning it does not react with food or beverages with which it comes into contact. This prevents any leaching of harmful chemicals, ensuring its safety. It doesn’t naturally contain lead or toxic chemicals like PVC, BPA and phthalates.

Stability: bkr silicone is stable across a wide range of temperatures, from extremely cold to very hot. It does not degrade or break down when exposed to heat.

Non-toxic: Food-grade silicone does not contain any harmful additives or fillers that could potentially leach into food. bkr uses only food safe-colorants and again, our silicone is free from BPA (bisphenol-A), PVC (polyvinyl chloride), phthalates, and other hazardous chemicals commonly found in some plastics.

Easy to clean: Silicone is functionally non-porous and smooth, so it doesn’t harbor or promote bacteria or fungus growth like plastic and metal do and it is easy to clean and sanitize. It can withstand repeated washing and sterilization without deteriorating or retaining odors, it is dishwasher safe, and it can be boiled. Bake your bkr silicone at 250 degrees for half an hour or forty minutes to remove any unwanted scents or flavors. 

Flexible and durable: Silicone is highly flexible and resistant to tearing, punctures, and deformation, ensuring long-term durability even with regular use.

Hypoallergenic: Overall, silicone is regarded as a safe and hypoallergenic material for most individuals. As with all things, if you have known allergies or sensitivities, it's always a good idea to test a small area of skin before prolonged or extensive use.

Recyclable: Silicone doesn’t decompose but it is recyclable — although not generally through typical city-wide recycling programs. There are many specialty recycling facilities that recycle silicone. bkr can recycle it for you if you cannot locate one. But again, bkr silicone is very durable so you won’t have to worry about disposal for a long time (or ever).

bkr third party lab testing: To ensure quality and safety, we regularly test our materials in accredited third-party labs to ensure all the components of a bkr meet or exceed stringent U.S.  federal safety guidelines and have passed FDA and RoHS testing requirements.

bkr products undergo a meticulous hand-finishing process, highlighting the thoughtfulness involved in their design. While we maintain stringent quality control and inspections, it's important to note that a small percentage of products may exhibit minor imperfections such as small glass air bubbles or silicone “flash” due to the nature of production and the hand finishing process. Each piece is unique and in the spirit of eco consciousness we embrace very subtle imperfections as beautiful. We are dedicated to delivering exceptional quality across our product range with the lightest footprint possible.

Wash before use and then wash daily with use. Your bkr bottle glass, sleeve, straw, and cap are dishwasher safe* on the top rack. Removing the sleeve is optional but easy. See our Instagram bkr care highlight for a founder tutorial. If you're cleaning by hand, we recommend using hot soapy water and our perfect bottle brush.

If you'd like to speed up the drying process, roll up a piece of paper towel so it's thin enough to get in the opening of the bottle, but wide enough to stay put.  Put the roll 3/4 the way down the bottle with the top of the roll out the top of the bottle like a wick and leave it overnight.  

We recommend storing your bkr with the cap off.  

*Please note, if you have the Swarovski Crystal cap, please wash by hand only and DON’T soak as it is not dishwasher safe.

Wash before use. Your bkr Cup glass, sleeve, straw, and cap are dishwasher safe on the top rack – the buttons and gasket can go in the dishwasher basket. We recommend rinsing immediately after use before placing in the dishwasher to avoid stains.

Treat your bkr cup like a fancy wine glass (gently) and your gasket and straws like your teeth––clean them or they could stain. Wash all pieces of the cap separately. To remove gasket pull down from the flat area above the K in the bkr logo on the underside of the cap.

Removing the sleeve is optional but easy. We do recommend that you periodically wash all parts separately and allow them to dry completely. See our Instagram bkr care highlight for a founder tutorial. If you're cleaning by hand, we recommend using hot soapy water and our perfect bkr brush. 

Your bkrs should look almost new forever. Store them out of the sun as much as possible to avoid fading. Most really stubborn stains come off with Bar Keeper’s Friend. Denture cleaners work miracles on the inside of the glass should you need extra help.

Dishwasher safe. To remove stubborn smells or tastes from straws, bake at 250 degrees for 30 minutes, smell carefully so as not to burn yourself, bake for another 10 minutes if smell persists.

If you are lucky enough to have a
Swarovski cap please treat it carefully as it is beautiful but fragile. Do not place the cap in the dishwasher or soak it.

Your bkr bottle is made of soda-lime glass––it's durable, break-resistant, and protected by a soft silicone sleeve, but it is still glass - so treat it carefully as you would your cell phone or any other thing you love. 

***DO NOT FREEZE THE GLASS it or put it in the back of a fridge that freezes things or leave it in your car in the freezing cold - it will break. We can’t stress this enough. Water expands in all directions regardless of how little of it is in your bkr.*** Please note freezing negates the warranty.

Your bkr cup is made from double wall borosilicate glass. It’s exquisite and a joy to drink from––and like all the finer things in life it must be treated with care. It is no more breakable than any other world-class double wall borosilicate glass, but it is not break resistant like our original soda lime bottles. To avoid breakage always add liquid before ice, do not freeze, remove the cap before microwaving, pack it carefully in the dishwasher, and treat it the way you would treat your favorite wine glass.

PLEASE DO NOT ever freeze your bkr with fluid in it OR put it in the back of a fridge that freezes things OR leave it in your car in the freezing cold - it will break. We can’t stress this enough. Water expands in all directions regardless of how little of it is in your bkr. Please note freezing negates the warranty. 

Yes, bkrs are Microwave safe with sleeve on – remove cap and always check temperature before drinking.

Yes in bkr Cups, but put the ice in after the liquid to avoid breakage.

Not in bkr bottles, but don't worry, you can find the perfect ice tube trays and bkr brush in our accessories shop. 

The bkr bottle opening is purposefully designed to be similar to bottles you are used to drinking from. It's one of the things that will make you love it. Like plastic water bottles, coke bottles, and beer bottles, it feels natural to drink from the smaller mouth all day. (It’s also a lifesaver in terms of not spilling all over yourself!)

Glass is not as insulative as metal, but we’ve experienced iced drinks staying cool for 2 to 4 hours in 100°+ weather with the lid on, and tea and coffee lovers have gushed about bkrs being the perfect vessels to enjoy each, keeping hot drinks the perfect temperature. How much ice you put in and other environmental factors do play into it. Glass has a different set of benefits from the environmental ones to the health ones, but the physics are different. Being able to heat bkr cup drinks a little in the microwave when you’ve left them out too long is an absolute game changer. From experience, metal cups get cold and you can’t heat them up.

bkr water bottles aren't intended for boiling hot liquid (or for freezing) and we don't recommend putting hot liquid in unless the glass itself is already warm. The glass is not tempered so you'll want to avoid rapid temperature changes which could cause your bkr to crack.  

bkr cups are temperature shock resistant. You can put boiling water in them followed immediately by ice cold water and they will be perfectly fine. Please don’t freeze your bottles or cups with liquid in them.

When you buy a bkr it comes fully assembled with a cap, sleeve and glass. We do sell extra glass, extra caps, compact caps, straw caps and straws in the accessories page of the bkr shop. Some sleeves are sold separately in our sleeve shop.

Bkr bottles and cups in little & demi fit most cupholders. The Teeny 250 mL fits all cupholders including stroller cupholders, the teeny tiniest of them all. The Big 1L bkr will not fit most cupholders, but does fit on some treadmills, ellipticals and on stationary bikes like the ones at Soulcycle. 

We’ve traveled the world with our bkr bottles. Just be sure to take them through security empty and fill up on the other side.

Keep in mind that some venues, stadiums, amusement parks and courtrooms don’t allow glass inside. Make sure to check with the venue beforehand if you’re worried. And if your bkr is ever confiscated, remember to take off your cap, balm and sleeve and keep them – you replace the glass later. We sell replacement parts in the accessories section of our website.

You need a compact cap to connect your water balm or compact container to your bkr.

There are two sizes of the Compact Caps: one that fits 250/500mL bkrs and one that fits 1L and Demi bkr bottles. The caps have different thread sizes to fit the different bottles BUT the full-size balm compacts fit ALL sizes of compact caps.
